Points of Interest

Ankara is the capital and the second largest city in Turkey. The well-planned city presents a pleasant blend of rich history with the modernity of wide boulevards, fashionable shops and fine dining. We do hope that you will find the time to explore this wonderful city and take advantage of what it has to offer. Listed below are some recommended places to visit during the duration of your stay:

Atatürk Mausoleum Complex

Located on the Anit Tepesi, beyond the railroad station, about 2.5km/1.5mi southwest of Ulus Meydani. Erected between 1944 and 1953, the mausoleum is the burial site and tribute to Turkey’s founding father, Mostafa Kemal Atatürk. The complex comprises a Path of Honor flanked by reclining Hittite lions, a Court of Honor, the Atatürk Mausoleum itself and a museum with much to see.

Atakule Tower

Built in 1989, it is a 125 meter tall communications and observation tower located in the Çankaya district of central Ankara. The top section of the tower houses an open terrace and a revolving restaurant, "Sevilla". It makes a full 360 degrees rotation in one hour. On top of it there is the "Dome" restaurant, right under the cupola. Under the terrace there's the "UFO" café. The bottom structures house a shopping mall and several indoor and outdoor restaurants.

Armada Shopping Center and Tower

For those that love to shop, this is the place to visit. It is Located in one of the recently developing parts of Ankara, 12 km from city, by the highway to Eskisehir and 30 minutes from Ankara Esenboga Airport. Armada Shopping Center won "Europe's Best Shopping Mall" award by ICSC in 2003, becoming the second mall in Turkey after Akmerkez in Istanbul to win this prestigious award.

Museum of Anatolian Civilizations (Turkish: Anadolu Medeniyetleri Müzesi)

It is located on the south side of Ankara Castle in the Atpazarı area in Ankara and is known for its beautiful courtyard. The Anatolian Civilizations Museum is in two Ottoman buildings: Mahmut Paşa Bedesteni and Kurşunlu Han. Within this Ottoman building, the museum has a number of exhibits of Anatolian archaeology. They start with the Paleolithic era, and continue chronologically through the Neolithic, Early Bronze, Assyrian trading colonies, Hittite, Phrygian, Urartian, Greek, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The exhibits of gold, silver, glass, marble and bronze works date back as far as the second half of the first millennium BC. Coin collections, with examples ranging from the first minted money to modern times, represent just some of the museum's many rare cultural treasures.
